Terms of use.
These terms govern your use of this website and anything you order, book or join through it. Please read them. By using the site you agree to them.

1. About these terms
This website is operated by Cōlab Yard, a café and farm store in Hawassa, Ethiopia, trading as Cōlab Press (the café and juice bar) and Cōlab Table (the farm store). In these terms "we", "us" and "our" mean Cōlab Yard, and "you" means anyone using the site.
By accessing or using the site you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the site.
2. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms at any time. The date at the top of this page is the day they last changed, and the version published here is the version that applies. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the changed terms, so it is worth glancing at this page from time to time.
3. Who may use the site
The site is open to anyone, and you do not need an account to use any part of it. If you are under 18, please use it with a parent or guardian, and do not send us personal information about yourself without their agreement.
4. Privacy
What we do with information about you is set out in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
5. Our name and our marks
Cōlab Yard, Cōlab Press and Cōlab Table, together with our logos, wordmarks and the visual identity of this site, are our trademarks whether or not they are registered. You may not use them, or anything confusingly similar to them, without our written permission. Nothing on this site grants you a licence to any of them.
6. Everything else on the site
The text, photographs, menus, illustrations, layout, design and code of this site belong to us or are used by us with permission, and are protected by copyright. You may view the site, print a page for your own use, and share a link to any page. You may not copy, reproduce, republish, adapt, sell or otherwise exploit any part of it for commercial purposes without our written permission.
7. What you may and may not do
You agree to use the site only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not restrict anybody else’s use of it. In particular, you agree not to:
- interfere with the site, attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, or probe, scan or test its security;
- use any robot, scraper or automated means to access, copy or monitor any part of it, or to place orders through it;
- use our printed codes to place orders you do not intend to collect, or to order for a table you are not sitting at;
- upload or transmit anything unlawful, defamatory, abusive, deceptive, or containing malicious code;
- impersonate anybody, or misrepresent your connection with any person or organisation;
- use the site in any way that breaches applicable law.
We may withdraw a printed code, decline an order, or block access to the site where any of this happens.
8. Anything you send us
We welcome comments and suggestions about what we do. Please do not send us confidential ideas, recipes, concepts, designs or business proposals through this site: anything you do send us on your own initiative will be treated as non-confidential, and you grant us a free, unrestricted right to use it without obligation or payment to you. This does not apply to personal information, which is governed by the privacy policy, or to a job application.
9. Relying on what the site says
We try to keep this site accurate and up to date, but we do not promise that it is. Opening hours change, dishes sell out, prices are revised, and a page may not have caught up with the kitchen. Menus and prices shown here are for information and are not an offer capable of acceptance. Where something on the site and something at the counter disagree, the counter is right.
10. Allergens, ingredients and substitutions
We will tell you, honestly and in detail, what is in a dish and what we are able to change. What we cannot do is guarantee that any item is free of any allergen. This is one small kitchen: the same surfaces, pans, utensils and fryers are used for everything, ingredients and suppliers change, and cross-contact is possible at any stage. Nutritional and allergen information given on this site or at the counter is our best estimate and is not a guarantee.
If a trace of an ingredient would be dangerous to you, speak to us before you order and take our answer seriously. You are responsible for the final decision about what you eat.
11. Orders placed through this site
An order sent from this site is a request, not a contract. It is accepted when our counter accepts it and begins preparing it, and until then we may decline it, most often because something has run out. Online ordering may be limited to guests who are physically in the yard and have scanned one of our printed codes.
If you change your mind, tell us before the order is made and that is the end of it. Once it has been made, it has been made.
12. Prices and payment
All prices are in Ethiopian birr and include applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. This site does not take payment: everything is paid for in person at the counter. We will never ask you for a card number, a bank account number or a PIN through this site, by email, or in a message from any of our social accounts. If anybody does so in our name, it is not us.
If an item is shown at an obviously incorrect price, we will tell you and cancel that order rather than hold you to it.
13. Orders we cannot fill
We may refuse or cancel any order, before or after it is accepted, including where an item is unavailable, where we suspect the order is not genuine, where a printed code has been misused, or where there is an error in the price or description. Where you have already paid for an order we cancel, we will refund you in full.
14. Orders left uncollected
An order that has been made and not collected is food we cannot sell to anybody else. We keep a prepared order for a reasonable time and then close it. Repeatedly abandoning orders may lead us to stop accepting online orders from a particular code or number.
15. Reservations and hiring the yard
A reservation is held once we confirm it, and not when you send the request. Please tell us as early as you can if you cannot come: a held table is a table nobody else could have. We may cancel or move a reservation where we have to, and we will tell you as soon as we know.
Hiring the yard is arranged with you directly. Anything about deposits, minimum spend, timings and cancellation will be agreed with you in writing before the day, and those arrangements take precedence over this section.
16. The drink rewards card
Where the rewards card is running, the count belongs to the phone number given at the counter, so whoever holds that number holds the drinks. The card has no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be transferred to another number. We may change how it works, or end it, and will say so on this site if we do. We may cancel a card we reasonably believe is being abused.
17. Messages from us
We will send you messages about an order or a reservation you have made, because that is how you find out it is ready or confirmed. Marketing emails are sent only to people who have joined the mailing list, and every one of them can be stopped by telling us at the counter or writing to us. We do not send marketing by SMS.
18. Linking to this site
You are welcome to link to any page of this site, provided you do so fairly and lawfully, in a way that does not damage our reputation or take advantage of it, and without suggesting any association with or endorsement by us that does not exist. You may not frame this site within another, and we may ask you to remove a link at any time.
19. Links from this site
This site links to other places, including our own social media accounts and mapping services. Those sites are not under our control. We provide the links for convenience, we do not endorse what is on them, and we accept no responsibility for their content or for what they do with information you give them.
20. Availability of the site, and ending your use of it
We do not promise that the site will always be available or free from error. We may suspend, withdraw or change any part of it, or restrict access to it, at any time and without notice. We may end or suspend your use of the site if you break these terms.
21. Disclaimer
The site is provided as it is and as it is available. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, conditions and representations of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
22. Limitation of liability
We stand behind what we serve you and what we sell you. What we cannot accept responsibility for is the site: to the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of this site or your inability to use it, however caused.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under Ethiopian law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, and for the safety of the food we sell you. If any part of this section is held unenforceable, the rest of it still applies.
23. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against any claim, loss, liability or reasonable cost arising from your breach of these terms or from your unlawful use of this site.
24. Events outside our control
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations where that failure or delay results from something beyond our reasonable control, including power and network failure, interruption to water or gas supply, fire, flood, extreme weather, civil unrest, industrial action, disease, and any act or restriction of a government or authority.
25. Governing law and disputes
These terms, and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them or with this site, are governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The courts of Hawassa have jurisdiction, and you and we submit to them.
If something has gone wrong, please tell us first. Most things are settled faster over a counter than anywhere else.
26. Severability and waiver
If any provision of these terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision is severed and the rest of the terms continue in force. If we do not enforce a right under these terms, that is not a waiver of it, and it does not prevent us from enforcing it later.
27. The whole agreement
These terms and the privacy policy are the entire agreement between you and us in relation to this site, and replace anything said or written about it before. Nothing in them gives any third party a right to enforce them. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another business; you may not transfer yours without our consent.
28. How to reach us
Write to contact@colabyard.com, use the contact form, or ask at the counter. If you think something on this site is wrong, tell us: that is how it gets fixed.
